I am having some family over on Christmas Morning. This is my first time hosting at my house. We are all going to help cook dinner, however, I wanted to greet them with a nice hearty breakfast to hold us over until dinner at about 4 or 5pm. Anyone have any suggestions? I could really use some. Thanks %26amp; Happy Holidays to you all! :)Does anyone have good christmas breakfast recipes?
Baked French Toast
ingredients
12 (1-inch-thick) baguette slices (cut on a long diagonal)
3 tablespoons instant-espresso powder
2 tablespoons hot water
3 cups whole milk
3 large eggs
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons sugar, divided
Cinnamon for dusting
Accompaniment: whipped cream
preparation
Preheat oven to 400°F with rack in middle and generously butter a 13- by 9-inch shallow baking dish or pan (3-quart; preferably glass or ceramic).
Arrange bread in 1 layer in baking dish. Dissolve espresso powder in hot water in a large bowl. Whisk in milk, eggs, vanilla, and 1/2 cup sugar until smooth.
Pour custard over bread, then turn slices over several times so they soak up as much custard as possible. Sprinkle top with remaining 2 tablespoons sugar.
Bake until puffed and set, 20 to 25 minutes. Cool in dish on a rack 10 minutes, then dust with cinnamon.
Joyeux Noel et Bonne Annee!Does anyone have good christmas breakfast recipes?
A nice simple one is... scrambled eggs on wholemeal toast with smoked salmon shredded over the top. With a glass of bucks fizz or fresh orange juice. If there is anyone that doesnt like salmon, you could crumble crispy bacon over instead.
I like to make skillet breakfast- hash browns in one skillet, sausage in another, scrambled eggs with veggies (tomatoes, onion, green peppers) and the sausages cut up- cook till eggs are done then add to the potatoes and mix it all up, you can put some shredded cheese on top too-serve with bagels some sliced fruit and fresh juice!
My grandma makes these cranberry scones every christmas morning and serves them warm with butter...they are amazing.
Here is the recipe she follows-
3/4 cup buttermilk or plain yogurt
1 egg
2 3/4 cups flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter
1 cup coarsely chopped cranberries (fresh or frozen)
1/2 cup sugar
1 orange, rind of
1 tablespoon butter, melted
1/4 cup icing sugar
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Beat buttermilk and egg in small bowl and set aside.
In a large bowl, measure flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
Cut in butter until mixture resembles small peas.
Mix in cranberries, sugar and orange rind.
Add buttermilk mixture and stir until soft dough forms.
Using your hands, form dough into a large ball and place on floured surface.
Knead about 10 times Pat into two circles about 1 inch thick, place on ungreased cookie sheet.
Score the tops of both circles to make 8 wedges on each, if making for a buffet, for regular scones, score each circle into 4 wedges.
Bake scones for 15-20 minutes.
While still warm, brush with butter and sprinkle with icing sugar.
